Abstract

The textbook contains information and concepts capable of leading to learning to build knowledge, taking into account the student's knowledge when entering the school and the reality that surrounds him. The present work presents a discussion about the function of the textbook in the teaching of Geography taking, above all, the contents worked from the didactic book, the methodologies of teaching and the role of the teacher in this process. The general objective of this work is to analyze and understand the function of the Geography textbook and the methodologies used by the teacher in the teaching-learning process. It is an empirical-interpretative research through a questionnaire addressed to teachers and students Geography of the 8th year of the Elementary Education II, EEEFM Professor Manoel Mangueira Lima, located in the city of Cajazeiras-PB. However, the problem is that our informants The teacher in providing the student an effective participation in the classroom so that it becomes an active subject of the teaching-learning process, while the students are mostly dissatisfied with the methodologies used by the teacher In the classroom. In this direction it is verified that the school education is characterized by didactic-pedagogical mediation that is established between practical and theoretical knowledge. Thus, the Geography textbook is one of the resources necessary to guide the pedagogical practice of teachers and the students' learning, to the point of becoming an indispensable resource for the teaching of Geography.
