A origem e o impacto do protestantismo no município de Pombal (1880-1940).

Abstract

This study aims to analyze the process of insertion and expansion of Protestantism in the city of Pombal, from the late XIX century to the 40s XX century. It examines the strategies used by Presbyterians for deployment of Protestant Christian religion in a context of complete mastery Roman Catholic, but also studied the social and religious impact that the arrival of Protestantism caused in society of Pombal at the time. To achieve the research objective, confronted a discussion bibliographic with the authors Seixas (2004), Sousa (1999), Mello (1997) and Wanderley (2009) to understand the context social, political, educational and religious of region of Pombal at the time. Addressed the forms of expansion of Protestantism in Brazil, especially the Presbyterian Christian denomination and its diffusion to the Paraíba and the region of the municipality of Pombal. Were used in this research, primary sources, bibliographic and oral, in other words, works, articles, minutes of churches and testimonies collected through interviews by the method of oral history.
