Abstract

In the last years it comes being developed researches using the , Menard pressuremeter in some research institutions in Brazil. Among them the Federal University of the Paraiba, Campus of Campina Grande, is forming a considerable database on the geotechnical behavior of the sandy soils. This research work has for purpose to present the results of a campaign of SPT,pressuremeter and screw plate testings made in a sandy soil deposit from the strip coastal of Joao Pessoa city, looking for to increase the existent data base. In this research the Menard pressuremeter was used and its results were compared with those from SPT. There was also an attempt to use screw plate in sandy soils, even so without success, due to some equipment and operational problems. The obtained results, for the SPT and pressuremeter tests, demonstrated their good performance on evaluation of the parameters of stress-strain for the studied sandy deposit. The pressuremeter test demonstrated to be a very useful tool, presenting a short answer time and a low operational cost. Its results agreed well with those obtained in the SPT, refering the identification of the profile of the underground, as well as in the obtaining of parameters of strengh.
