Crianças especiais: impactos iniciais e a percepção das mães.

Abstract

The birth of a child with special needs causes several implications in the family context, being the mother who suffers the greatest impact, since the shock initial diagnosis, the perception through daily living, the impossibilities and children's limitations. The main objective of this study was to investigate the different views mothers face the impact of the news that their children have some kind of deficiency. An exploratory research with a qualitative approach was carried out, which had As participants 15 mothers of disabled children, through the application of a questionnaire semi-structured, collected during the month of June 2009. The responses were categorized and analyzed using the Collective Subject Discourse technique, proposed by Lefevre and Lefevre. The mothers reported feelings of rejection, sadness, anger, denial, despair and fear in the face of their children's disabilities, but they pointed out that with the help of the family, faith in God and professional help managed to face the situation and learned to live together and assist the child according to his limitations. There were also sudden changes in the mothers' routine, some who had to leave their jobs to dedicate themselves entirely childcare. But the greatest concern is for their future in this world so prejudiced that does not open space for living with differences. Finally we hope that this research provides mothers with an exchange of fruitful experience, to professionals a warning about the importance of adequate assistance and society an incentive to end the prejudice that still plagues our country.
