Atuação da enfermagem na assistência à saúde da mulher com câncer de mama.

Abstract

Breast cancer is one of the primary tumors that affect women, being this much feared among them by promoting physiological and psychological effects, because o f this, the nursing care is important to contemplate all physical, emotional, and social aspect of patient. This work aims to know the nursing care of women with breast cancer in the oncology service. It is a descriptive and exploratory study with a qualitative approach; held in a philanthropic hospital of reference for oncology in a small town of Ceara. 16 nurse technician and 01 nurse participated of the study; data collection was guided through a self-administered questionnaire in the months of February and March; the qualitative data were organized and categorized according to the technique of Thematic Content Analysis (TCA), The research followed the resolution 196/96 of the National Health Council. The results showed that the assistance was predominantly technical, because the majority of the participants were nurse technicians. To ease the pain of patients the professionals sought to talk with them explaining the procedures that would be performed, listening to complaints; administering analgesics; leaving the patient comfortable; asking the family to be always present during the procedures performed with the patient; and trying to improve the self-esteem of women. The facilities found for the care o f women with breast cancer in the service were the guidelines provided about the treatment, the quality o f material, the nursing staff prepared, clinical physicians and surgeons trained, the client's trust in the nursing staff, access to treatment after discharge, guidelines with the dressing and the drain especially after the discharge and providing most of the treatment modalities used in breast cancer, not being necessary to go to other health services. The difficulties found were related to the patient's own health condition, as the prejudice and fear of mangling by the fact of having to remove the breast, the non-acceptance of the condition and consequently the non-cooperation with the treatment, and the abandonment of treatment. As suggestions were cited the need of guidelines and psychological, nutritional and social assistance before and after the treatment, more trained professionals, a larger number of beds, lectures and guidance about the subject. The performance of nursing staff is of paramount importance for patients facing breast cancer, which can provide a better quality of life and a positive result at the end of the treatment.
