A função social dos sindicatos no Brasil.

Abstract

It is part of human nature to associate to seek common subsistence interests. This spirit of collectivism meant that workers decide to organize to fight for their rights, achieving several accomplishments and becaming aware of their fundamental role in the production process. We can observe the appearance of legislation bolstering organizations that served to protect labor rights. The trade union took its first steps along with industrial development. And since the Industrial Revolution, this institution is acting in favor of collective and individual work rights. Over the years, labor and the union organizations went through several changes to suit the needs of society in constant modernization, seeking to exercise their social function. The social function of trade unions is to defend the interests of their members before the employers, effecting social justice, and bringing benefits to the community. The effects of globalization, like outsourcing and unemployment, has been a challenge to fulfill this function by modifying the working relationship. It is up to unions to suit a new reality, seeking solutions to the effective fulfillment of collective interests through the implementation of their social function, to attend the needs in of today's society.
