Causas de fratura do fêmur em idosos no Brasil: uma revisão integrativa.

Abstract

From the demographic point of view, population aging is a result of two main factors: a sharp drop in the fertility rate and the reduction of infant mortality. These factors together with changes in the social, educational, cultural and health, led the Brazilian population aging rapidly over the past 50 years. The quality of life during aging is related to the loss or reduction of functional capacity of the elderly. The aging may be influenced by biological factors, diseases and also from external causes. Recent research shows that the occurrence of fractures carries a significant impact on the functional capacity of the elderly by changing your daily routine, as well as family dynamics. Fractures of the proximal femur are the most serious fractures in the elderly, require hospitalization and surgical treatment for the most part and have high rates of morbidity and mortality. OBJECTIVE: To assess the scientific evidence related to femoral fracture causes in the elderly in Brazil. METHODOLOGY: This is an integrative review, carried from the articles of the Virtual Health Library (BSV) in the period between January and February 2016, with the descriptor: "Fractures Femur", and inclusion criteria: Text full: available; Limit: elderly; Portuguese language; Country / Region as subject: Brazil. RESULTS: In this study we obtained a sample of 07 items, with an average sample of 5837 elderly victims of femur fractures, of which the main cause of femur fractures in the elderly in Brazil were falls, followed by osteoporosis and finally decreased visual acuity. CONCLUSION: Thus, it is necessary that health professionals need in their assessments for the existence of these causes and seek to establish future prevention actions in the elderly population.
