Segurança pública e identidade: a construção do ethos policial militar paraibano.

Abstract

This work concerns Paraíba Military Police’s identity, from the soldier. The discussion of identity assumes that the individual does not have a unique identity, but consists of an actor who plays several roles in the social scene. The methodology is qualitative and makes use of interviews, content analysis and observation in locus. The research was developed on the 10th and the 2nd Military Police Battalion of Paraíba (PB - 2 ° BPM ), located in the city of Campina Grande. The interviews were accomplished between October and December 2013, recorded and digitized. Twelve military polices were interviewed, two officers and ten soldiers, among them four women and eight men. PMPB social networks also constituted valuable elements of observation of the soldiers. Empirical benchmarks are websites of the Military Police of Paraiba and the Ministry of Justice, as well as Balestreri and students of Brazilian public safety’s work. Goffman, Foucault and Giddens are among the theoretical frameworks that support the theoretical discussion of the research. The chapter one discusses public safety and identity with the theoretical frameworks that support the discussion. The chapter two discusses the selection process for the Training Course for Soldiers (CFSD) from the announcement of the CFSD-PMPB, in 2008. The third chapter deals with the process of socialization or education PM from CFSD's made between 2009 and 2012. In the fourth and final chapter, from their experiences, men and women soldiers talk about their experiences within and beyond the institution. The input processes, training and stay in the institution, which resembles those of type Totals reveals that military police identity is constituted of idealizations that make of the soldier more a war than "street" individual. Moreover, the discourses and practices of both the establishment and the proper soldiers indicate that the wishing of inputting PM, be one of your members and want to leave it are distinct phases of a soldier, that far from having a permanent identity is a phenomenon in constant flow of socializations.
