Abstract

The drug traffic is one of the profitable activities in the world, thereby, besides to having the characteristic permanence it makes at the same time to the formal labor market, i.e., has become a new alternative livelihood to the lower classes with own characteristics and values. According data of the National Penitentiary Department – NPD, the trade of illicit drugs in Brazil constituted in the last years an activity that led to the entry of more women in the Brazilian prison system. The participation of the women in this “activity” has been happened in the last times progressively, highlighting that the increase of around 241% in the number of incarcerated women since these in 2002 represented 4.5% of the national prison population (or 10.285 inmates), index in 2012 rose up to 6.8% (or 35.039 inmates). This reality is the reason of this reality is why this monograph paper is being developed, proposing to investigate and analyze the interrelationships of drug trafficking with the increasing participation of women in this unlawful practice, as well as providing to narrate the historical trajectory of women from society, exposing the determining factors for the construction of criminal identity of those and identify the main issues involving women in the drug underworld dissecting the causes and stating the reasons that drove the criminal practice and therefore searching solutions and effective means to resolve the damaging effects of those conducts. As for the technical procedure adopted, the present research may be classified as bibliographic, using in the study the quantitative-interpretative aspect. Moreover, was used as juridical method the exergetic and, with respect to data analysis, it was made a prior reading of doctrines bringing together texts on the subject to seek opinions on the subject. Finally, the research through information and data analyzed, shows that drug trafficking as well as being a criminal offense, and has become a job opportunity that may allow for women, somehow overcoming the difficult financial situation that affects not only their own lives but also the family group. Anyway, it is identified through this reality, the need for formulation of a prison policy that takes into account the demands of the prisoners and structural issues related to them.
