A tradução intersemiótica na construção da personagem Chapeleiro Maluco em Alice de Tim Burton.

Abstract

The aim of this study is to observe the physical and psychological characteristics of the Mad Hatter, from the choices made by the director of the film, Tim Burton, investigating the influence of the environment, the audience and time in the adaptation. The theoretical framework of this research is mainly Jakobson's (2000) theory of Intersemiotic Translation, Cronin's (2009) and Silva's (2012) theory of Cinema and Culture; and Metz's (1980) theory of Cinema and Psychoanalysis. For the analysis to be carried out, Alice in Wonderland by Tim Burton (2010) and the bonus features of the DVD were watched. Carroll's children's books (2009) were also read. In the analysis, the semiotic symbols of the images that built the physical representation of the Mad Hatter were interpreted, observing the characteristics that were changed or maintained in contrast with Tenniel's illustrations, and the scenes of the movie were compared with book excerpts to check i f there were changes in the behavior of the Mad Hatter in his interactions with Alice. In the end of this research, the conclusion was that the Mad Hatter for the cinema is different in looks and behavior from the Mad Hatter from the book, since the movie is a creative transposition of the original book.
