Abstract

Faced with the complaint from honey producers in the sertão of Paraíba that one of the obstacles to the development of beekeeping is the lack of credit, there was a need to seek to help them through research and to know to what extent this is true. As it is known, Brazil, Paraíba and the sertão of Paraíba are producers of honey, although it is clear that it has the potential to multiply the production of this tasty product tasted on a larger scale by other countries, among them neighboring Argentina. Imbued with this objective, it is initially proposed to know about beekeeping and data on production and trade, both at the world, national, Paraiba and in the hinterland of this State. Next, it is proposed to know the rules on rural credit, currently in force, to verify the main programs and financing lines, especially considering the profile of the honey producer of the Paraíba hinterland. Information was collected in books, articles, and related legislation, through interviews with representatives of associations of beekeepers, data observation, and two questionnaires were applied to honey producers in the sertão of Paraíba and it was found that in fact for the concession of the credit, in certain cases, requirements are made that are not covered by regulations. The care provided by the official financial institutions, indeed, is precarious. The credit is not granted in the right time and for all the necessary purposes of the producer. When consulting data on the credit concession in the region where the producers carry out their activity, it was noted that the contracting is very low, both considering the turnover with the activity and considering the number of producers with the potential to obtain rural credit, especially through of the PRONAF lines. Considering the importance of beekeeping as an income generating activity for several families in the sertão of Paraíba and considering the importance of credit for the development of any activity in modern times, it was concluded that it is necessary to do a work of dissemination of the honey production of the sertão Paraíba, the universities as a center for information and mediation by SEBRAE, as well as the official financial institutions, which are responsible on behalf of the Federal Government to promote the northeastern region.
