"É que a terra não é tudo": um estudo sobre o assentamento Paus Brancos e seus mediadores.

Abstract

This dissertation is about the history of the organisation and the struggle of the rural wokers from the assentamento Paus Brancos, which area is situated in the half-dry region of the state Paraíba, at 42 km from Campina Grande - PB. We dealt with the workesorganisation from their struggle for the access to the land, that began in 1986, till the struggle to keep on staying "on the land" (already on the assentamento), started in 1988. It means we emphasized on what we consider the most important elements: the internai worksorganisation; the relation with the mediators; the most important problems existing on the assentamento; and the autonomy-question in the relation with the mediators. Referring to the mediators, we gave special attention to the effective participation of the Church in the fíeld, by its representatives (priests, religious persons), besides agents of the CPT (Comission of land Pastoral), which presents itself "as suporting service for the Landworkers". We gave also attention to the participation of the the PATAC (Program Alternative Technology Adapted to Comunities), which beside the CPT is a worker's ally in Paus Brancos.
