A questão étnico-racial e ensino de geografia: análise de livro didático e a formação dos professores.

Abstract

In this paper, we approached the ethnic-racial based on the federal law 10.639/03 that was created after a great deal of fighting from black people’s movements. Said law makes it mandatory teaching about Africa and black people in the brazilian culture construction and in the country’s organization and social formation, with the purpose of building a new vision about black people and the african continent. We will deal with these themes’s importance in the Geography teacher’s development process analysing the curriculum of Geography courses from Paraíba and the theme’s current academic production, through the analysis of event annals about Geography teaching. The other way to identify how this topic’s insertion takes place and their goals in geography teaching in schools came from the reading and analysis of textbooks. Knowing that the textbook is a necessary material to work with in the classroom, they were analysed before and after the law aforementioned with the intention to identify if the ethnic-racial theme and Africa were presented in a way that contributes to the creation/maintenance of stereotypes about black people and Africa. After analysing the books, pedagogical projects from the teaching graduations and the law 10.639, it was shown that the changes that have taken place are enough to obtain a satisfactory result about the development of a new vision about the ethnic-racial topic and Africa in Geography teaching.
