Paisagem sonora: espaços, memórias e f(r)estas (Cuité-PB, 1960-1980).

Abstract

The soundscape that I refer to in this work is forrned by the sounds of leisure placas in the city of Cuité-PB, undergoing transformation. Written with the pens of cultural history, the work sought to map the spaces that produce sounds, as well as the practices of the playing subjects during their performance, on stage and off. Our perspectiva (1960-1980) takes place at the moment closest to the curve of ascension and performance of the modernizing ''winds" that passed through the city, which were relocating things and customs. This movement brought with it a range of social adaptations and, to collect traces of that moment, we used the methodology of oral history, collecting reports from the musicians of the time as the main source, whose speeches demonstrated the steps and notes that made this soundscape create/live. Similar to a musical piece, our text has moments of greater and lesser intensity, pauses and returns.ln the first moment, we bring the soundscape in the historical base of the place, its first sounds/silences, its connection with the indented time, and how this sound is changing and changing leisure placas with the arrival of new civilizing "winds" ( philharmonic, clubs, cinema, amusement parks, shows and rules). Then, we also started to observe less formal placas and subjects (fairs, bars, folklore groups, papangus, cabarets), their limitations and resistances. And finally, we present the musician/player's daily practices, their difficulties and tensions, as well as their creativity before, during and after the performance; which, together with other "instruments" that enabled the composition of the landscape, gave sound and life to the city of Cuité, during the period between 1960 and 1980.
