Interfaces entre as questões urbanas e ambientais na ZEIS Pedregal, Campina Grande / PB.

Abstract

Unequal access to urban land acquisition due to the conditions imposed by social production processes ends up destining the poorest people to settle in areas that are inappropriate for occupation, environmentally fragile, or in parts of the city that don’t have adequate urban infrastructure. Poverty situation, when associated with environmental risks, only increases the state of vulnerability a population is subjected to, and further restricts its “right to the city”. The ZEIS instrument appears then to be of fundamental importance to ensure that the population also enjoys the city and that it fulfills its social function, in compliance with constitutional rights to decent housing and an ecologically balanced environment. Thus, the present work aimed to elaborate a social and environmental characterization of ZEIS Pedregal, located in Campina Grande / PB, considering the categories of vulnerability and environmental risk. As a starting point, we used the methodology developed in the PIVIC scientific initiation research “Socioenvironmental characterization of the ZEIS of Campina Grande / PB”, which proposes the overlapping of socioeconomic and physico-spatial data for the creation of the social and environmental sphere. From the results obtained, it is identified that the actions implemented over the years were insufficient to remedy the environmental and social risks existing in ZEIS, keeping the population in a high state of vulnerability.
