Estudo retrospectivo do Tumor Venéreo Transmissível (TVT) na Clínica de Pequenos Animais do Hospital Veterinário da UFCG de Patos - PB: 2009 a 2013.

Abstract

The objective of presenting a retrospective analysis of 217 cases of transmissible venereal tumor (TVT) diagnosed in the Clinic of Small Animal Veterinary Hospital UFCG, Campus Patos-PB, analyzing their frequency in relation to variables such as race, age, gender , site location and response to therapy between the years 2009-2013, in order to identify the epidemiology of the disease. The most affected dogs were the SRD, and Poodles involving mostly young animals and sexually active adults. Regarding gender, this study showed that females were more affected than males. It was observed that the place of the primary neoplasia was the vulva, then the penis after nasal, oral and cutaneous cavities. Among the 217 dogs that were undergoing treatment at the hospital, 88 of them did not complete the treatment, making it necessary to emphasize to owners the importance of not permitting their dogs on the streets, as these animals represent a potential reservoir for spreading of that disease.
