Anestesia em cães cardiopatas - revisão de literatura.

Abstract

The technological development in Veterinary Medicine combined with an increase in life expectancy of domestic animals and the higher demand for specialization has resulted in a growing number of anesthetic procedures in patients with heart diseases. This study aimed to compile information available in the literature to deepen the knowledge about the effectiveness and safety of different anesthetic drugs and their associations in cardiopathy animals. It is imperative that the anesthesiologist deeply understands the physiology of the cardiovascular system, the pathophysiology of the involved disease, the procedure, equipment and drug properties, particularly when applied to the circulatory system. Complementary clinical exams are a crucial tool to determine the cardiac involvement degree. The drugs composing the anesthetic protocol should be chosen according to the overall status of the patient, using opioid and benzodiazepines as pre anesthetic is indicated, the etomidate can be used for anesthetic induction and isoflurane and sevoflurane is a good choice for the anesthetic maintenance.
