Abstract

Dental evaluation of Quarter Horse horses, under semi intensive breeding, in the Municipality of Itaporanga - PB.This monograph deals with the configuration of the dentition in equines, with the objective of evaluating and distinguishing the main dental affections affecting Quarter Horses, submitted to a semi intensive breeding system and adverse diets. For this purpose, 48 adult horses of both sexes of the Quarter Horse breed, duly registered in the Brazilian Association of Quarter Horse Breeders (ABQM), of properties located in the Municipality of Itaporanga - PB were evaluated. The diagnosis of the affections was established according to the execution of the conventional and dental clinical examination, with a judicious approach on secondary systemic interrelations, through a correlative point anamnesis, inspection and palpation of the face and, specific examination of the oral cavity. The prevalence of morpho-pathological occurrences was 81 (100.0%) events of excess enamel or dental tips, of which 9 (11.1%) were episodes as an isolated condition and 42 (51% , 9 (11.6%) associated with various irregular wear, of which 11 (13.6%) were found to have excessive rostral "hook" wear, 10 (12.3%) with dental "step" formation, 6 7.4%) episodes of excessive wear on incisors, 5 (6.2%) of the caudal "hook" type and "ramp" wear, 3 (3.7%) findings of irregular wear on "swallowtail" and unit events (1.2%) associated with uneven wear in the form of a "transverse crest" and "wave" wear. As well as the finding of 30 (37.0%) occurrences of irregular wear associated with various pathologies, such as 12 (14.8%) cases of first premolar or "wolf tooth" eruptions, 7 (8.6 (2.9%) of teeth, 6 (12.5%) of incisor malocclusion, four (4.9%) detections of dental absence, three (3.7%) episodes of caries, 2 (2.5%) of dental calculations in incisors and single occurrences (1.2%) of anomalous diastema and dental impaction. With prevalence of excessive enamel tip in the premolars and molars, dental calculus in canine teeth and excessive wear on incisor teeth. It is concluded, therefore, as to the close correlation between the occurrence of dental affections, essentially, excessive early wear in Fourth of the Quarter equines, reared semi-arid under conditions of semi-arid climate and, therefore, submitted to the diet relatively According to the peculiarities of this research.
