Estudo ambiental do Açude Major Marinheiro (Açude da Fome) no Município de Jardim de Piranhas - RN.

Abstract

The present work had as its purpose to perform an environmental diagnosis and the perception of the resident population in the surroundings of the Major Marinheiro pond (Açude da Fome), in the municipality of Jardim de Piranhas/RN. To this end, it was established as methodological procedures the field survey of the occurrence of the observed environmental problems. It was also made a survey about the degree of knowledge and perception that the population around the pond has in relation to the environment. To achieve these goals, questionnaires were applied and the spontaneous observation method was used. As a result, several points of environmental problems in the studied area were identified and recorded, among them: rubble from civil constructions, solid waste deposits, open sewage, disorderly growth of the building towards the pond bed, degradation of riparian forests and breeding of loose animals on the banks of the pond. The environmental perception of the residents of the studied area demonstrated that they identify that the water of the Major Marinheiro pond is of low quality and recognize themselves as responsible for contributing to this because of their domestic sewage being dumped in it. On the other hand, they claim that, only a few times, they harm the environment, even recognizing the scarcity of knowledge about the environment. It is concluded that there should be a greater mobilization of the public managers and population that surround the pond for revitalization projects of the area with alternatives that benefit the environment, consequently, contributing to a better quality of life of the community.
