Anestesia na cesariana em cadelas - revisão de literatura.

Abstract

During pregnancy, the dog goes through a series of physiological changes that need to be taken into consideration when it needs for surgical intervention, because otherwise both mother and fetuses risk their lives. In veterinary medicine, pregnant animals, in most cases, are not followed up by obstetricians as occurs in humans, so these animals only goes to the veterinary clinic when something happens that prevents the natural birth, and because of this problem which occurred when birth, these animals begin to trigger a series of physiological changes, transforming them into a risk’s patient, thus requiring greater care by the veterinarian. In most cases this distortion at birth is only seen when performed a cesarean section, and because of complications showed by the animal, it’s necessary to establish the safest anesthetic protocol, so that neither the mother nor the cubs take excessive risk, due to the physiological changes caused by anesthetic agents chosen indiscriminately. This work presents a literature review on relevant aspects during pregnancy and childbirth in the female dog; precepts and basic knowledge in anesthesiology for the realization of a safe anesthetic technique; anesthetic protocols that cause less depression in the cubs and the mother during the cesarean section in female dogs; hoping thus, the improving of the veterinarian medicine for the quality of life of newborn pups and their mothers.
