Terapia fotodinâmica no tratamento de herpes simples do tipo 1: revisão de literatura.

Abstract

Herpes simplex virus type 1 (HSV-1) is a contagious disease that affects the orofacial region, is transmitted when it comes in contact with the mucosa or infected surfaces. Conventional treatment is based on the use of topical and/or systemic antivirals. Photodynamic therapy (PDT) is a new treatment modality and has been widely used since it is harmful to microorganisms, but it does not have consequences for human cells. The objective was to perform a literature review on the protocols of photodynamic therapy for recurrent herpes simplex lesions, based on articles published in national and international journals using SCIELO, BIREME, PUBMED, MEDLINE and the descriptors: herpes simplex, photodynamic therapy and low-power laser therapy, HSV- 1, PDT, LLLT. In all studies PDT showed success in its use, mainly in phase change and resolution of the disease, which was shown to be faster than with the use of topical ointments and with success in decreasing the frequency of the virus. In addition to being a technique that does not bring pain and discomfort to the patient and serve as a coadjuvant for conventional therapies. It was also shown to be easily accessible and applied to the Dentist, being of great utility and low cost. However, there are still many divergent protocols in the literature regarding laser device dosimetry and photosensitizer (FS) concentrations, requiring further case studies to arrive at a definitive and standard protocol.
