Avaliação da atividade anti-helmíntica da torta de Neem (Naturalnim®) em caprinos naturalmente infectados no Semiárido Paraibano.

Abstract

The goat farming is an activity of great socioeconomic importance in Brazil, mainly in the semiarid of the Northeastern region, being the main source of animal protein from lowincome population. This activity becomes limited by the damage caused by gastrointestinal helminthiasis and the resistance of the parasites to the anthelmintic drugs, hindering their control. Phytotherapy arises in order to minimize anthelmintic resistance, increase profits and reduce the environmental impact caused by drugs. This study aimed to evaluate the anthelmintic activity of Neem Pie (Naturalnim ®) in naturally infected goats in the semiarid of Paraíba State, Northeastern Brazil. Were used 18 goats, without defined breed, males, aged between six and 12 months, naturally infected by gastrointestinal helminths. The goats were completely random distributed into three groups of six animals (Group I - animals received daily 2 g of neem pie, orally, for 90 days; Group II - animals that received 1% of Ivermectin ®, orally, in a single dose of 1mL/10Kg live weight; Group III – animals that received distilled water and constituted the control group). Fecal samples were collected at day zero and 15, 30, 45, 60, 75 and 90 days post-treatment to process the OPG and larval cultures, and blood samples were collected at day zero and 30, 60 and 90 days post- treatment for the PCV. A reduction in the EPG only was observed on days 75 and 90, represented by FECR rates of 24% and 54%, respectively. However, there was no statistical difference (p> 0.05) between the treated and control groups. The Haemonchus sp. was the most prevalent helminth gender in the larval cultures. Were no significant changes (p> 0.05) in weight between the animal groups. Was a significant increase (p <0.05) in PCV of animals treated with Neem Pie (Naturalnim ®) on day 90. Were conclude that the Neem pie (Naturalnim ®) was not effective in controlling goat gastrointestinal helminthiasis in the semiarid of Paraíba State, Northeastern Brazil.
