Higienização bucal com clorexidina em pacientes internados em unidade de terapia intensiva (UTI).

Abstract

Patients in Intensive Terapy Units are subject to various morbidities, including the Nosocomial Pneumonia and Ventilator-Associated Pneumonia, which has the primary etiological factor to poor hygiene of the oral cavity, thereby allowing pathogenic biofilm develops and is aspirated into the lower respiratory tract. Preventing these illnesses is based on oral hygiene, and currently the chlorhexidine digluconate has been extensively used as an antiseptic solution. Thus this study was to do a literature review to ascertain the actual effect of chlorhexidine on oral hygiene in the prevention of Nosocomial Pneumonia and Ventilator- Associated Pneumonia. After the selection and analysis of the studies it was revealed that the care of oral hygiene in debilitated patients in intensive care units is essential for better survival in this patient and showed that chlorhexidine in most studies was effective in preventing nosocomial pneumonia in intubated patients.
