Abstract

The harmony of the smile is an important factor in facial aesthetics, the color of teeth is one of the important characteristics to define a smile as attractive. Thus, this study aimed to evaluate two products dental office bleaching and whitening verify their effectiveness and posttreatment tooth sensitivity. 12 volunteers were selected, the upper arch of each underwent an imaginary division from the midline, forming two groups; LD comprises the upper right hemi-arch (11-15 tooth) and the LE composed of the upper left hemi-arch (21-25 tooth). The lower jaw formed the control group. The LD received hydrogen peroxide 35% Whiteness HP® (FGM Dental Products, Joinville, SC, Brazil) and LE received hydrogen peroxide 35% Pola Office ® (SDI Limited, Bayswater, VIC, Australia) in three sessions followed with one week interval. The color was evaluated with visual scale Vitapan Classical (Zahnfabrick Vita, Bad Sackingen, BW, Germany) to start each session and 12 days after the last session of the bleaching treatment. At the end of each session, the volunteers recorded the occurrence of tooth sensitivity in facial scale rating of pain Wong-Backer. The results showed that bleaching agents used showed the same bleaching potential and that there was no statistically significant difference (P <0.05) and the intensity of sensitivity when comparing the two products. It was concluded there was no difference between products with regard to power whitening and tooth sensitivity.
