Avaliação da aplicabilidade da identificação humana por meio da rugoscopia palatina.

Abstract

In addition to maxillary teeth and bones being useful for identification work, soft tissue structures such as the lips and the hard palate are also. The palatine rugosities present in the anterior region of the palate and are irregular mucosal elevations and unique to each individual. The present work had as objective to evaluate the applicability of the human identification through these structures. We adopted an inductive approach with a descriptive and comparative statistical procedure and a direct documentation method in the field. Sixty dental gypsum models were used to delineate their palatal roughness, according to carrea and silva, and the demographic variables ethnicity, sex and age were compared. In a second moment, the applicability of the use of the palatal roughnesses as a method of identification by the dental academics through the simulation of "ante" and "postmortem" data was verified. It was observed prevalence of wrinkles on the left side in the male sex and right in the female sex. There was a prevalence of wrinkles on the right side in all ethnic groups. Most of the students obtained a positive result against the identifications. It was concluded that the evaluation of the rugoscopies in relation to the qualitative, quantitative variables, according to established sex, ethnicity and age still needs further studies, since the standards vary according to the evaluator, method and classification system used. The applicability of the human identification using the palatine rugoscopy by the students was positive, proving the effectiveness of the method, even when applied by people without training or experience.
