Achado acidental de lesão cística em mandíbula previamente a confecção de prótese total: relato de caso clínico.

Abstract

The residual cyst is classified as an inflammatory odontogenic cyst. This type of lesion is most commonly observed in the posterior region of the maxilla, and it presents a higher predisposition for appearance in males between the third and fifth decade of life. The objective of this study is to report a case report of an accidental finding of a cystic lesion in the mandible prior to the creation of a total prosthesis. A healthy male patient, total edentulous, attended the clinic of Dentistry of the Federal University of Campina Grande (UFCG), during the clinical examination, the patient reported pain in the anterior region of the mandible. The imaging examination showed a well delimited and circumscribed radiolucent lesion. After aspiration, the contents were bloody and gaseous, with a hypothesis diagnosis of residual cyst. Surgical enucleation was the treatment of choice. In this study, with the aid of an imaging examination during the manufacture of a total prosthesis, it was possible to detect the accidental finding of a residual cyst. Therefore, radiographic examination is fundamental for the edentulous patient before prosthetic rehabilitation.
