Parotidite supurativa aguda em paciente jovem e sistemicamente saudável.

Abstract

Acute suppurative parotitis is an infectious process caused by bacterial origin that affects the parotid gland and usually occurs in patients with some type of systemic impairment or in conditions of hyposalivation associated with poor oral hygiene. Objective: To describe a case of a young and systemically healthy patient who developed acute suppurative parotitis. Case report: A 21-year-old male patient, feoderma, sought the services of the Academic League of Surgery at the Department of Bucomaxilofacial Surgery at the Federal University of Campina Grande, Patos campus, Paraíba, Brazil complaining of a increased volume and pain in the left region of the face. On physical examination, a purulent drainage of the Stensen duct was observed and the clinical diagnosis was acute suppurative parotitis. The indicated treatment was based on antibiotic and non-steroidal anti-inflammatory, the patient progressed well and after seven days had no clinical complaint. Conclusion: This infection is uncommon in young and healthy patients, but when diagnosed early and properly treated it has a good prognosis.
