História e imagem: as representações dos escravizados nas fotografias de Marc Ferrez (1875-1890).

Abstract

This monograph aims to analyze the imagery produced by Marc Ferrez, a 19th century photographer, in order to understand how he represents the enslaved people in this period. Firstly, the goal is to present some reflections on this production, emphasizing the intentions of those who made them and their target audience. Authors such as Koutsoukos (2007), Mariana Muaze (2015; 2017) and Maria Turazzi (1995) contributed to the contextualization of the photographs. Subsequently, the research proposes a reflection on the use of the image as a historical source, where we used authors such as Ana Mauad (1996) and Eduardo Paiva (2004) for this purpose. Finally, we dedicate ourselves to the study of the enslaved family considering that, through the analysis of Ferrez's photographs, we observe the presence of family nuclei. For these elucidations, we used Robert Slenes (2011) in order to understand how the formation of these nuclei happened. This whole path was built in order to point out the paths and intentions that led Ferrez to represent slavery in a "appeased" way.
