Geografia e literatura: Capitães da Areia como representação do espaço urbano.

Abstract

This monographic work aims to build a dialogue about the insertion of literature as a teaching methodology, based on the analysis of the work Capitães da Areia, by Jorge Amado, from the possibilities for the teaching of Geography. In this sense, we outline the trajectory of School Geography, highlighting the possibilities of an interdisciplinary teaching with literary texts, since literature can represent a given reality which Geography must investigate and benefit from. The methodology developed is based on a qualitative study with an exploratory descriptive approach, carried out over six months, through bibliographic and documentary research. For this purpose, authors such as: Amado (2009, 2012); Andrade and Brandão (2009); Santos (2012) were used as theoretical support for the discussion. The analysis of the work seeks to investigate the urban space of the city of Salvador, Bahia (BA), from the meanings attributed by the literary writer, encompassing the mapping and recording of photographs of the spaces presented. Based on research and surveys of geographic representations contained in the work, two didactic proposals are established as a suggestion for the teaching of Geography in High School: Spatial reality of the city of Salvador; Social inequality and socio-spatial segregation.
