Relação entre a tipologia facial e medidas transversais intra-arcos.

Abstract

Dental arcades can have different shapes, which may relate to the differential characteristics of each facial pattern, or even to the width of the face. The facial analysis is extremely important in the diagnosis and orthodontic planning, since the treatment of the malocclusions an improvement of the facial morphology. Objective: The present study aims to evaluate the correlation between the facial typology detected through the Vert index of Ricketts and the intra-arcos transverse measurements. Method: The sample was composed of teleradiografias lateral and models of studies in plaster of 90 patients above 18 years of age, belonging to the specialization course in orthodontics of Funorte, in the city of Campina Grande. Were divided into 3 groups, being 30 belonging to the mesofacial standard, 30 dolicofacial and 30 braquifacial. The absence of permanent dental elements of the upper and/or lower arcades, patients less than 18 years old and those with prior orthodontic treatment were exclusion criteria. The registration of the Intra-arcos measures was performed with a digital caliper of the branded Stainless (China) duly calibrated, and the Vert index from the same radiological service. Results: Multivariate Analysis of Variance (MANOVA) revealed no significant differences between facial types in relation to DIC values (inter-canine distance), DIP (inter-premolar distance) and DIM (inter-molar distance). The Pearson correlation showed that DIC values, DIP and DIM showed each other positive significance level in all facial patterns. Conclusion: It was concluded that there was in the sample, a direct relationship between the transverse dimensions of the upper and lower dental arches and facial type of the individual, but the significantly positive correlations between these measurements indicated that its increase or decrease obeyed an independent proportion of facial pattern, that is, when one tends to be higher, other measures also tend to increase.
