Estudo retrospectivo das complicações associadas a exodontias de terceiros molares em um serviço de referência no Sertão Paraibano.

Abstract

Retrospective study of complications associated with third molar extractions in a reference service in Sertão Paraibano. Nowadays, the surgical procedure for removal of impacted third molars has been the most frequent among oral and maxillofacial surgeons, often practiced by non-specialist dental surgeons. These exodontias present their difficulties, for example, the intimate relation with noble anatomical structures, the angulation of the crowns of the included teeth, the impaction, besides the complications of the surgery proper that can be seen in the intraoperative and / or postoperative period. This research aims to analyze the complications of surgery for 3rd molar extraction. The research was carried out at the Clinical School of Dentistry of Universidade Federal de Campina Grande, Patos, PB, Brazil, through the retrospective evaluation of the medical records of 226 patients submitted to extraction of the third molars in the Academic League of Surgery (ALS) of this institution, obtaining 483 extractions and 43 cases (8.9%) of complications. Based on our research, we conclude that the findings in our study are in agreement with pre-existing studies.
