Próteses total sobre implante dos tipos overdenture e protocolo de Branemark: uma revisão de literatura.

Abstract

In the stomatognathic complex rehabilitation, aesthetics, function and comfort for the patient must walk side by side, presenting a great challenge in the day-day of dental practice, especially regarding the prosthesis on the implant, where besides seeking union Of these factors, we should try to overcome limitations such as (and mainly) reabsorption of the alveolar bone. In an attempt to overcome these obstacles, two types of implant prostheses can be used for total edentulous patients: total overdenture prostheses and fixed total dentures of the Brånemark protocol type. The choice between these methods is dependent on careful evaluation of the case, taking note of local factors such as quality of remaining bone, distribution of masticatory charges, distribuition of implants, hygienic capacity, occlusion and financial conditions. In this literature review it was found that Brånemark protocol type prostheses are indicated for at least six implants in the maxilla and five in the mandible (could be reduced in mandible, as the all-onfour techinical), while overdenture prostheses should be fixed in at least two mandible and four maxillary implants. Through this literature review, we sought to compare these two alternatives in oral rehabilitation, pointing out pros, cons and why each is indicated in the treatment of total edentulism. Through this literature review, with the search of several databases on the internet such as PubMed, Bireme, Lilacs, Medline and Google, in the search for articles with indexed keywords, we sought to evaluate these two alternatives in oral rehabilitation, pointing out advantages and disadvantages and indications and contraindications of these rehabilitation modalities, as well as highlighting their clinical particularities of interest to those who propose to perform this type of treatment. This review concluded that implant prostheses Branemark’s protocol type and overdenture are treatment options that demonstrate great functional aesthetic effectiveness, with great variety within their own modalities.
