Tratamento ortopédico facial com uso de splint maxilar de thurow modificado: relato de caso.

Abstract

The skeletal Class II is characterized by the positioning of the maxilla in front of the mandible in order to cause an excessive overhang of the upper arch. This feature can alter the patient's profile and generate an aesthetic discomfort, which often its leads to seek early treatment. When the skeletal Class II problem results from a protrusion of the maxillary bone base with poor mandibular positioning, and the patient seeks treatment before the pubertal growth spurt, extraoral appliances for facial orthopedics can achieve good results in the correction of bone discrepancies. The objective of this work is to report a case of use Modified Thurow Maxillary Splint in the facial orthopedic treatment of skeletal Class II malocclusion during the period of craniofacial growth and development. At the beginning of the reported case, the patient was 13 years old, but with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus, its bone growth was slightly delayed for her age, justifying the use of Maxillary Splint, with a clinical protocol of 14 hours use daily and tensile strength of 500g each side, with the therapy being followed for one year. After this step, there was an improvement in the relation of bone bases and in the profile of patient, it was concluded that facial orthopedic treatment of skeletal Class II becomes quite effective when its correct indications are taken into account in hour to propose the treatment.
