Clínica multidisciplinar de ensino odontológico: perfil dos usuários e motivos para consulta.

Abstract

Introduction: The dental clinics that belong to Higher Education Institutions must attended the academic demands and of the users who are seeking them, should be, in this way, prepared to solve their problems. Objective: This study aims to identify the profile and the reasons for dental appointments of users of the multidisciplinary clinic in dentistry at the Federal University of Campina Grande. Methods: The study was cross-sectional and observational and the information were collected through of 800 dental records. The profile of the patients was evaluated, the reason for seeking the service and the specialty which the user was forwarded. Once collected, the data was analyzed by descriptive statistics and submitted to the statistical Chi-squared test (p <0.05). Results: It was observed that most of the patients are female (64.1%), single (49.9%), afrocaucasian (47.1%), are between 21-30 years of age (24.4%) and they are from Paraiba State (87.8%). The main reason of seeking the services was the treatment (63.5%). The clinics that had a higher prevalence were the Operative Dentistry and Periodontology. By associating the dental specialty that the patient was forwarded with the gender, it was observed statistically significant difference (p = 0.003), which was proportionally bigger the forwarding for male gender to the surgery specialty. There was not statistical significance when compared to other specialties with the gender (p> 0.05). Conclusion: The search for dental treatment was the main reason of the seeking for the service and the specialties that the patients most needed were Operative Dentistry and Periodontology.
