Ansiedade apresentada por crianças frente ao tratamento odontológico.

Abstract

The objectives of this study were to determine the profile of children aged 6 to 12 years of age, with respect to front anxiety to dental treatment and assess the main factors that trigger anxiety in this population. The study sample consisted of 200 children with an average age of 8.5 years who attended the School Clinic of the Federal University of Campina Grande Dentistry and Basic Health Units of the Patos- PB county family between June 2015 and May 2016. The anxiety during treatment was evaluated using the Dental Anxiety Scale and the Come Picture Test. The chisquare test and Fisher exact tests were used to explore the level of significance of associations between variables. Results in anxiety was observed in most children (Dental Anxiety Scale - 89% and Come Picture Test - 70.5%) and the prevailing levels were low and moderate. The child's age was significantly associated with anxiety (p = 0.014) through the test Come Picture Test, whereas gender did not show this correlation. Moreover, the anxiety suffered influence of all the factors studied marking consultation, waiting room, dental pen and periodontal scaling. Thus it was concluded that the majority of children had anxiety and that triggers studied acted considerably in the development of anxiety. a broader exploitation by studies on the methods used is interesting to reduce anxiety, which are essential for the progress of Pediatric Dentistry, to elucidate the success of the application of these methods.
