Ameloblastoma unicístico de grande extensão em paciente jovem: relato de caso.

Abstract

The ameloblastoma is the most common odontogenic tumors, being locally invasive and presenting high relapse rates. It has slow growth and minimal symptoms, and hardly noticed in its early stages. It occurs in all age groups and is often diagnosed in the third and fourth decades of life. It is rare in young patients, speculating that by slow growth, probably, the lesion begins to develop in childhood, just being diagnosed late years later. The unicystic variant is more common in pediatric patients presenting radiographically as a cyst, and usually being diagnosed in histopathological examination of a lesion removed or subjected to surgical biopsy as an odontogenic cyst. Treatment of unicystic ameloblastomas have a less aggressive character, and often affect pediatric patients, it is usually by a conservative approach as enucleation, removal, peripheral osteotomy and the use of cryotherapy or Carnoy solution. This paper describes a case of ameloblastoma uncicístico in a young patient, located in the region of molars and mandibular branch right, with 17-month follow-up. The clinical and radiographic diagnosis was odontogenic cyst, however histopathological examination revealed that it was a unicystic ameloblastoma. The proposed treatment was curettage with margin held through peripheral osteotomy and Carnoy solution.
