Irmã Nirvanda Leite Rolim: uma mulher dedicada à educação e às obras sociais (1953-1992).

Abstract

This work, located in the area of ​​History of Education, was based on the approach of the New Cultural History, was guided by qualitative research and was methodologically supported by oral history, privileging oral sources, associating them with sources of another nature, to highlight the story of Sister Nirvanda Leite Rolim, a nun and teacher from Cajazeir. In this sense, we sought to understand the educational and religious background of Sister Nirvanda Leite Rolim, from her educational practices and social works undertaken in the city of Cajazeiras-PB. The theoretical-methodological contribution is based on the writings of Burke (1992), Perrot (2019), Scott (1992), Sousa (2018), Araújo (2020), Bosi (2003), Alberti (2008), among others. The research showed, in the educational dimension, that the strict disciplinary rules were evident in the training process of Sister Nirvanda, when she was a student at Nossa Senhora de Lourdes College (CSNL), a confessional institution, guided by the precepts of the Congregation of Santa Doroteia. Subsequently, Sister Nirvanda was a teacher at the same institution where she took up the discipline of Religious Teaching. From the interviews with the collaborators of this study, it was found that the themes worked in the Religious Teaching discipline are linked to Catholic religious teachings, especially to the values ​​of the Congregation of Santa Doroteia. With regard to social works, in 1981, Sister Nirvanda founded the group: Jovens Unidos a Santa Paula (JUSP), whose meetings took place at the CNSL. In this group, she developed actions aimed at youth and the poor. Therefore, it is possible to affirm that Sister Nirvanda's formative process, followed in the CNSL, left marks on her religious formation and on her performance as a teacher.
