Os índios Pankará na Serra do Arapuá: relações socioambientais no sertão pernambucano.

Abstract

This study addressed the Serra do Arapuá, altitude slough, Caatinga, Pernambuco backlands, in its social and environmental characteristics and as a physical and symbolic territory for Pankará People, from the perspective of Environmental History and Indigenous, also dialoguing with other areas of knowledge such as Anthropology, Geography, Biologies, etc., in order to understand the importance of the natural environment where the Pankará live. We also present studies on the occupation of the northeastern backlands, the policies undertaken by the state, and missionaries "Curraleiros" about the various indigenous groups who inhabited the region. Undertake reflections on the ethnic identity relating to the environment that Pankará live, discussing their experiences. We emphasize the importance and uses of plants of the Serra do Arapuá by the Pankará People, especially in ritual and therapy. Therefore, we appropriate theoretical and methodological concepts, especially the Environmental History and Anthropology, through literature searches and memories of Pankará in order to contribute with reflections on the importance of the environment, the Serra do Arapuá in the affirmation of Pankará identity.
