Cidades (in)visíveis, cidades sensíveis, cidades (in)desejadas: uma história de prostituição em Caruaru - PE (1960/70).

Abstract

This dissertation aims first to think, as in a given historical moment - the 1960s and 1970s - the phenomenon of prostitution is possible for readings and re-readings in a city of Agreste Pernambucano: Caruaru, from the discourses and statements contained in the newspapers DEFESA and VANGUARDA initially, subsidiary sources for this work, together with some bills of the City Council of city councilors and the local littoral, like the example of Nelson Barbalho. Two specific objectives were built, with the purpose of being theoretically linked to the general proposal of the study, providing answers to the initial questions, which were: 1) To understand, as a representation, sensitivity and exclusion are articulated in this city plot : the fight against prostitution in Caruaru; 2) Primarily for representations, as constructors of the social world and forgers of a city imaginary about prostitution by discourses and their many power relations and knowledge together, as well as the urban sensitivities around the theme. The dissertation is composed of two chapters and the final considerations, chapter I: Fields of the sensible, places of representation, borders of exclusion: in a relationship, prostitutes and the city. And, chapter II: Memories of a "bad place": between words, memories and temptations of forgetfulness. For the operationalization of the research, we have appropriated some key concepts, such as representation, from the French historian of culture, Roger Chartier, sensitivity, exclusion and segregation, by the Brazilian historian Sandra Jatahy Pesa-vento, discourse and discursive battle , of the French philosopher Michel Foucault, to justify what is being defended in this dissertation and to try to understand the life of these women-prostitutes of the 1960s and 1970s in the "Princess of the Agreste".
