Engajamento literário e sentidos históricos na literatura existencialista de Jean-Paul Sartre 1938-1960.

Abstract

We intend to put into discussion the phenomenon of intellectual commitment of the french writer and philosopher Jean-Paul Sartre (1905-1980) in historical perspective, highlighting the conditions of possibility of adopting this stance by the author, putting his contributions and their practice literary in the tradition of french commitment literature. Conceive their texts literary, simultaneously, as many records historical, and as tools for analysis, knowledge and intervention in the affàirs of his time, seeking to understand the meanings that the author attributes to historical facts represented in his literature and in relation to its literary and intellectual commitment. We trace a panorama of its production as a writer engaged, indicating the (dis)continuities and ruptures present at the execution of his project of engaging intellectual, marked by three distinct phases, but additional: Sartre’s encounter with literature, the Sartre's literature encounter with history and at flnallythe issue of commitment literature as historical engagement and reflux of engagement. Will indicate the resistance to his thesis on the writer's commitment to society as well as pointing the rejections to the aesthetic literature that is present in his works. To effect discussion, we analyze a several novels, short stories and plays that the author has produced and published between 1938 to 1960, thus stressing the relationship interdependence between history and literature.
