A violência na Região Nordeste: uma análise das dimensões da realidade homicida.

Abstract

Homicide rates in Brazil experienced considerable growth until 2017, with a downward trend until 2021. The states of the Northeast region are one of the most affected by this reality of crisis in Public Security, showing rates of Lethal Violent Crimes and Intentional (CVLI) higher than the national average. In the specialized literature, there is a discussion about the existence of a specific profile of the subjects involved in cases of intentional violent deaths, namely, the predominance of male, black, single people, aged between 15 and 29 years, low education and who live in a context of social inequality. Thus, the objective of the present research is to seek the causalities of the growth of homicides in the Northeast, having as a research problem the following question: what are the explanatory dimensions of violence in the Northeast? To achieve the proposed object, a quantitative-based methodology was adopted, using descriptive and inferential statistics tools, with the homicide rate in the Northeastern States being the dependent variable. The independent variables were organized into four distinct dimensions: structure, population size, development and public security expenditures. After the tests, it was possible to verify that all dimensions are important to explain the phenomenon of violence in the Northeast, with emphasis on the dimensions spent on Public Security and Structure, which presented greater explanatory power.
