Formação acadêmica, cuidados perinatais e violência obstétrica.

Abstract

Objective: To investigate how perinatal care and obstetric violence are addressed in the Nursing course of the Federal University of Campina Grande. Method: This is an exploratory and qualitative research carried out with university professors. It was considered the professors who teach in the first, fifth and tenth periods and minister disciplines linked to sexuality and feminine health. It was used the socio-demographic questionnaire and semi-structured interview, by having a descriptive analysis and thematic category, respectively. Results: Participants were between 28 and 47 years of age, most of them women with a teaching time of 1 to 24 years, with income between 6 and 10 minimum wages. From the interviews emerged two general thematic classes: Academic methodological approach and Perception of obstetric violence; three categories (theoretical, practical and professional intervention) and seven subcategories (real examples, legislation, rounds of conversation, professional/patient interaction, humanized intervention, naturalized/veiled and prevention). Conclusions: Most nursing professors do not directly address the issue of obstetric violence. On the other hand, it was observed the consonance with the literature, providing a broad vision about the whole process of prepartum, delivery and postpartum, moving towards the discussion of humanization, as well as demonstrating the capacity to dialogue with the students when the theme arises in the classroom.
