A representação das personagens femininas protagonistas de O Quinze de Rachel de Queiroz.

Abstract

The current space occupied by women in society is the result of a long struggle. Achievements such as the guarantee of studies, the right to vote and insertion in the labor market were major advances in the quest for social equality. The road was hard and one of the ways that women found to express their desire to occupy a place that was not limited to the impositions and idealizations to which they were submitted was through literature. Faced with a context of changes in the most diverse social spheres that occurred during the late 19th and early 20th centuries, it was possible to observe some transformations in the role of women in society. In this sense, starting from the study of O Quinze, by Rachel de Queiroz, we seek to present in this work the representation of the protagonist characters present in the work, having as main objective to analyze which factors make Conceição, Dona Inácia and Cordulina, totally different women, with thoughts and attitudes that determine the behavior of each one. Then, we identified in the novel which aspects influenced their actions and the space that each occupies within the novel. As a theoretical basis, we seek to know the female universe in the early twentieth century, a period that influenced the writing of the work, based on Alves (2000) and Stelmacuk (2012); the female trajectory in Brazil from Telles (2004); conceptions about feminism by Alves and Pitanguy (1985); women in Rocha's Brazilian literature (2017); in addition to other authors who also contributed theoretically to the foundation of our work. As for the methodology, the research developed is characterized as bibliographical, as it starts from the analysis of the novel and develops from the study of other bibliographical references, and quantitative, regarding the nature of its data, as it consists of the understanding and interpretation of facts. It also comprises a descriptive-analytical character, as it will provide a deeper reading of the characters, the feminine and the contextual relations of the space and time in which the work was produced, taking into account the drought as a plot condition.
