Camilla quer viver: um ensaio sobre suicídio e transgeneridade.

Abstract

Since the 1990s, so-called "transgenders", especially transvestites and transsexuals, have effectively joined the LGBT movement in the struggle to end violence against this population and for egalitarian rights in society. Despite great social and political advances, these individuals still suffer significantly due to prejudice and social exclusion, leading to serious problems in several aspects, including health, since this population has high rates of suicide. With the intention of contributing to the evolution of the discussion about the subject and the hope that future works will show us the statistics of the suicide among transgenders in Brazil, so that we can have a real notion of the dimension of this problem in our country, we will analyze a letter , through hermeneutics and the psychosocial autopsy, written by a young transgender named Camilla de Castro in an attempt to extract elements that may help us understand the issues related to the suicide process in transgenders. We hope that these elements can justify, or at least direct, the motives that lead this population to such psychic and social suffering, and thus we will seek to understand the issues that led Camilla to commit suicide.
