| ???metadata.dc.description.resumo???: | O coral Siderastrea stellata foi monitorado mensalmente durante o período de setembro de 2008 a maio de 2009, nos recifes do Picãozinho, João Pessoa, PB, visando caracterizar o ciclo anual das zooxantelas, bem como o fenômeno do branqueamento e o aparecimento de doenças. Quatro fragmentos sadios e quatro branqueados de S. stellata, foram coletadas nas marés baixas e processados em laboratório usando uma câmara de contagem de Fuchs-Rozenthal em microscópio optico. As zooxantelas exibiram padrões distintos de variação sazonal em termos de densidade populacional, índice mitótico e diâmetro celular. O branqueamento e as doenças observados em S. stellata são recorrentes nos recifes do Picãozinho, e esses fenômenos desestabilizaram a associação simbiótica entre os corais e seus hospedeiros. |
| Abstract: | The coral Siderastrea stellata was monitored during September 2008 to May of 2009 in the reefs of Picãozinho, João Pessoa, PB, aiming to characterize the annual cycle of the zooxanthellae, as well as regarding the bleaching phenomenon and diseases. Four healthy and four bleached fragments of S. stellata were collected during low tides and processed in the laboratory using a Fuchs-Rozenthal counting chamber and an optical microscope. The studied zooxanthellae showed distinct patterns of seasonal variation in population density, mitotic index and cell diameter. The bleaching and diseases observed in S. stellata are recurrent in the Picãozinho reefs, and these phenomenons have destabilized the association between the zoantídeo and their hosts. |
