Abstract

In the rural environment, the producer must understand the forage potential that surrounds him in a native and exotic way, in addition to the options that he can cultivate that are adapted to his reality and environment, thus being crucial for success in his agricultural activities. The objective of the work was to evaluate the species with nutritional value for production animals, from the perspective of the community itself, thus bringing an overview of the environment and the management systems implemented there. For this, the research was conducted in the rural area of Caicó, Rio Grande do Norte, more precisely in the Quixaba community, with the participation of eight producers, where questionnaires were applied individually, collecting information, using the experimental design of the qualitative type, for case study. It was found that the interviewees cannot discern the variability of native and exotic forage species and their nutritional potentials. Still, they have little or no technological aid, and maintain an archaic management compared to properties that have specialized monitoring.
