O liberalismo cearense: uma análise das práticas políticas dos liberais cearenses no Senado Imperial (1864-1868).

Abstract

The aim of this dissertation work is to present the political practices - projects and speeches - of the liberal parliamentarians from Ceará within the Chamber and the imperial Senate between the years 1864 to 1868. In an attempt to analyze through the totality and the historical dialectic places of power, worldviews and national projects from part of the Brazilian ruling class that constituted the regional liberal party in Ceará. Thereunto, we proceeded with a series of investigations of both private and general elements, related to the political practices of these liberals, based on the sources of the Reports of the President of the Province of Ceará to understand the concrete reality that permeated the local relations of these parliamentarians; as well as, the Annals of the Senate and the Imperial Chamber, characterizing the highest representative institutions of the period, where the clashes between regional and national interests of the political disputes of the country's ruling classes were concentrated. For this research we have appropriated the dialectical materialistic historical method, where we proceed the stages of scientific investigation from the mapping, crossing of informations, analysis and reflections of the data present in the research sources in question. Thus, we expose the partial results of these procedures in two chapters developed here, with the first chapter presenting the elements that made up the political-administrative and socioeconomic reality of Ceará in the years 1864 to 1868. And in the second chapter, discussing about the actions that were properly explored about the liberal parliamentarians from Ceará present in the Legislative, starting the discussion by the imperial senate based on the political actions of senator Tomás Pompeu de Sousa Brasil, senatorial representative of the liberal flag from Ceará in the imperial parliament between the years 1864 to 1868.
