Abstract

In the face of advances in society, some groups continue to be forgotten and socially vulnerable, as is the case with the LGBTQIAPNB+ population, which through its struggle, through social movements, has been gaining more visibility in guaranteeing rights, although still insufficiently. This paper aims to examine the significance of social movements in promoting the visibility of the LGBTQIAPNB+ community in the Paraíba hinterland despite the prevalent prejudice in the region. It discusses the historical background of social movements and the factors contributing to the social invisibility of this marginalized community. The study employs qualitative research and relies on bibliographical sources as well as the dialectical historical materialism approach to comprehend the effects of external influences, including economic, political, and cultural factors, on reality. Despite the movements' progress, certain members of the community face obstacles to accessing these advancements caused by prejudice and other barriers. Given the challenges encountered during the research, future work on the LGBTQIAPNB+ movement in the northeastern Sertão will benefit from this study, particularly considering the limited body of research available on the subject.
