Abstract

This work is the result of a research and a broad process of perception about the secular and worldwide phenomenon of drought, which determined a long period of drought in the municipality of Patos-PB, between the years 2012 to 2017. The long periods of drought in the Brazilian semi-arid region trigger losses in the socioeconomic and environmental areas, where the limitation and/or absence of water resources increases the vulnerability of the inhabitants of this region. This work aims to describe the various impacts of drought in the municipality of Patos-PB, which occurred from 2012 to 2017. A documentary study was carried out, in which it was possible to carry out an exploratory and descriptive theoretical research, there are also qualitative approaches to be able to determine a case study. The main results, obtained in these searches, have been cataloged countless times in other previous years in which droughts occurred, and justify the relevance of the search for the theme that is to know the phenomenon of drought and its harmfulness, causes and consequences that affect society, sectors of the economy and the environment. However, the repetition of old policies and the total absence of efficient public policies has determined the sequencing of old and enormous problems.
