Abstract

This work is inserted in studies related to History and Music and aims to understand the female figure based on its representations in the lyrical works of Chico Buarque. From his songbook, we sought to analyze the use of the feminine and masculine lyrical self in four of the artist's compositions, and from these, reflect on the cultural, social and political roles occupied by women at the time. However, it seeks to reflect on the stereotypes of submissive figures and those who break this pattern. The songs were composed, produced and released during the period of the Brazilian Military Dictatorship (1964-1985), therefore, the work seeks to understand how female political participation developed during the time, as well as the participation of these figures in the musical scene. To think about the concepts and issues discussed throughout this work, several scholars are used, including names such as Napolitano (2002), Tatit (2004), Meneses (2001), Silva (2010), among others.
